In an effort to preserve the waning industry of physical media, a new breakthrough has been announced that promises to change the way we see, or rather don’t see, our CDs and DVDs. Developers have created the aptly named “Clear” compact disc.
Promising more functionality than its opaque counterpart, the Clear CD is certain to become the new standard in compact discs.
The prototype disc shown is comprised of polycarbonate plastic measuring just 1.2 millimeters in thickness and weighing in at roughly 15 grams.
Manufacturers have announced a gradual, global distribution of the Clear discs. A single Clear disc will now be added to the blank media stacks of opaque CDs, DVDs, and Blu-Ray.
We hope to see these evolutionary discs available in stores soon.
