Though Elon Musk thought it would be a good idea, Tesla’s first organized race event was boring and uneventful. The 43 Tesla Model S’s were told in true NASCAR form to start their engines, but no-one heard a thing.
The race consisted of 43 bored drivers engaging the autopilot and making 100 silent laps. Then all 43 cars made a 15-minute pit stop to recharge their batteries. Just as uneventfully as the entered the pits, all 43 cars moved back on the track and did 100 more laps to finish the race.
The only highlight of the race day was Elon Musk letting kids battle with his flamethrowers in the infield. It gave the emergency responders something to do because a crash was not in the cards during the safest race ever.
