During a recent discussion with his group of friends about which “one” each person is in the group, a local man understood himself to be the “funny” one.
“I mean, not to sound narcissistic or anything,” he said, “but I like to think I’m pretty funny. I make everyone laugh all the time, and no one else had been called the ‘funny’ one yet, so I figured it would be me.”
“We don’t even laugh at all of his jokes,” one friend said when asked for comment. “He’s not really funny. I mean, he has a few good jokes every once in a while, but he’s not really considered ‘funny,’ you know? Sometimes we give him a pity laugh, but not nearly enough for him to think he’s the funny one.”
“I was almost certain we were gonna peg him as the ‘awkward’ one,” another friend said. “He kinda walks this certain way where he doesn’t move his arms as much as everyone else does. He also always drops his change – like, always, without fail.” She then paused and added another “always” for emphasis.
“Yeah, awkward fits him better,” the friend from before added. “He always says ‘you too’ when an usher at a movie theatre tells him to enjoy the movie, or when a waiter tells him to enjoy the food. He never notices it, though. He’s really unaware of his surroundings.”
“My parents always used to tell me I should be a comedian,” the man eagerly shared. “They always told me I was a big joke.”
When told what his friends had said about him, he said, “Well, being awkward is funny, right? I mean, I didn’t even know I did those things at restaurants and stuff. That’s kinda funny, right? Right?”
