California, a state known for its extravagant wineries, celebrities, and debt is working to claim a new title: “The solar power capital of the world.” Hoping to meet all of the state’s electricity needs through solar power, the Governor has initiated a plan to line California’s warm, sunny beaches with solar panels. Given the large amount of tanned citizens, he believes that beaches are the optimal area for gathering sun rays.
His plan would require beaches to remain closed to the public, while solar panels would be lined side by side in the sand. Some are concerned that the upkeep of solar panels is extremely costly and that the lower cost of electricity may not be worth the hassle. Despite this concern, work is scheduled to begin in May at the beginning of tourist season. Luckily, no one visits California for the beaches anymore.
